Seen from space, the Arctic region appears far removed from most of Earth’s inhabitants. But
we're connected to the Arctic by the fish we eat, our daily weather, and coastal flooding. The
National Research Council reports that 10 percent of the world’s fish catch comes from Arctic
and subarctic waters, and about half of the US fish catch comes from subarctic waters.
Scientists report that climate change is happening more quickly in the Arctic than elsewhere.
