Water Management

Approximately 70 percent of all water that is consumed worldwide is
for agriculture. It irrigates fields and grows crops that feed us directly
(vegetables, fruits, and grains) and indirectly (feed for animals). A
decrease in the amount of water available for irrigation—caused by
climate impacts such as rising temperatures and droughts—
would require farmers to reduce the amount of land they
farm or shift to crops that require less water. What
strategies are being used to adapt to or mitigate
water problems associated with climate change?
