Food waste is a global problem. According to the UN’s Save Food Initiative, about one-third of the food produced
in the world for human consumption every year—approximately 1.3 billion metric tons—gets lost or wasted.
In the US, the EPA reports that in 2014, more than 38 million tons of food was wasted. Reducing food waste will
